This page is a blog which will periodically address common misconceptions and confusion regarding various pigeon-related titles and authors.

In this blog we will discuss the Pleines Deel 1 (albums 1-6) and Deel 2 (albums 7-12) by noted author C.A.M. Spriujt and accomplished illustrator and author C.S.T. Van Gink. Publication by Koch & Kuttel, Gouda, began in the early 1920s. Each album except album 1 featured 24 illustrations of various breeds of pigeons, plus an illustration on the title page which was the same for all albums, for a total of 25. Album number 1 had only 23 illustrations, plus the shared illustration on the title page, for a total of 24.

Colored cards were available to paste over each of the illustrations, based on watercolors by Van Gink. The reader obtained the cards by purchasing a certain product, possibly butter. A complete set of cards for Deel 1 and Deel 2 (all 12 albums) totaled 299 cards. Each card was different except for the title page card, which was the same throughout.

Most collectors and even some dealers in antiquarian pigeon books are completely unaware of the existence of this colored title page card and believe their album is complete when they have covered the illustrations on the other pages. You will need 12 examples of this card to complete an entire set of albums from 1-12.
